Do I need council permission to fell a tree in Torfaen or Monmouthshire?

You generally need permission if the tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or if your property is in a Conservation Area. This is common in parts of Abergavenny, Chepstow, and near Pontypool Park. We can help you check this with the local council. If a tree is dead or poses an immediate danger, we can often carry out the work, but it is always best to verify first.

Why should I choose DuraPost steel fence posts over traditional timber or concrete?

Timber posts eventually rot at the ground level where they sit in wet soil. Concrete posts are heavy, can crack, and are difficult to install on steep valley gardens. DuraPost is made from cold-rolled galvanised steel. It is lightweight, won't rot, and is designed to handle the 110mph winds we sometimes see on exposed hillsides. It gives you a much longer-lasting boundary.

Are you licensed to take away garden waste and household rubbish?

Yes. JDP Outdoor Solutions is an Upper Tier / Full Waste Carrier. We provide you with the peace of mind that every load of garden waste or household rubbish we collect is tracked and disposed of at a legal recycling centre. This protects you from the risks and fines associated with illegal fly-tipping.

Can you replace broken fence posts without replacing the whole fence?

If your fence panels are still in good condition but a post has snapped, we can usually replace just the post. We can also slot new panels into existing concrete posts if the old ones have blown out. We always look for the most cost-effective way to secure your boundary.

How deep do you grind tree stumps below ground level?

We usually grind stumps down to well below the turf line. This allows you to cover the area with topsoil and grass, or even lay a new patio or path over the top without the old root system getting in the way.

When is the best time of year to cut back large hedges?

While we can do light trimming most of the year, we avoid heavy reductions between March and August. This is the main bird nesting season, and it is illegal to disturb nesting birds. We recommend scheduling major hedge work for the autumn or winter months.

Can old crumbling patio joints be repaired without relaying the whole patio?

Absolutely. If your paving slabs are still solid but the gaps are full of weeds and moss, we can help. We clean the joints out thoroughly and refill them with high-quality jointing sand or resin-based mortars. This refreshes the look of your garden and stops water from getting under the slabs and causing them to wobble.

Valley Trade Knowledge

Navigating Slopes, Enclosed Terraces & High Winds in Abercynon

Abercynon sits at the historic confluence of the Cynon and Taff valleys. For outdoor contractors, that geography creates a unique combination of sharp hillside terraces, narrow rear lanes, and severe wind corridors funnelled down the valleys. Standard installations and off-the-shelf garden kits quickly fail under these conditions.

At JDP Outdoor Solutions, led by owner Jac Price, we are equipped specifically for challenging valley plots. Whether you have a stepped boundary on a hillside terrace requiring precision Birkdale DuraPost steel fencing to withstand gale-force winds, or an overhanging sycamore trapped in an enclosed rear garden, we bring practical valley know-how to your doorstep.

Strict Waste Compliance for Cynon Valley Residents

As a registered Upper Tier Waste Carrier regulated under Natural Resources Wales (NRW), every load of green cuttings, root ballast, and old fence panels we remove from Abercynon properties is processed legally through licensed South Wales transfer stations. No shortcuts, and complete protection from duty-of-care fly-tipping fines.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions for Abercynon Property Owners

Direct trade answers regarding site access, local weather, and boundary work.

Can you manage steep or stepped gardens in Abercynon?

Yes. Much of our work across the valleys involves steeply inclined plots. When building fences, we step panels neatly down retaining walls or contour bespoke featheredge continuous runs to follow natural gradients. All posts are set to appropriate depths with high-strength concrete to prevent downhill shift.

What happens if a tree falls or snaps across my boundary during a storm?

We operate a 24/7 emergency response specifically for hazardous and storm-damaged trees. If a fallen trunk or hanging branch is obstructing a driveway, leaning on an outbuilding, or blocking road access in Abercynon, phone us immediately on 01633 603306.

Why choose DuraPost steel posts instead of concrete or standard timber?

Concrete posts are extremely heavy to carry up steep terraced steps and can chip or crack over time, while standard timber posts rot quickly in wet valley soil. Birkdale DuraPost is cold-rolled galvanised steel: it resists winds up to 110mph, will never rot, and is lightweight enough for clean manual handling in narrow terrace access paths.

Do I need council permission to prune or fell a tree in Abercynon?

If the tree is covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or falls within an official Conservation Area designated by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, an application must be submitted prior to carrying out works. We can advise on this during our site visit and ensure all pruning adheres to BS3998 standards.
