Do I need council permission to fell a tree in Torfaen or Monmouthshire?

You generally need permission if the tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or if your property is in a Conservation Area. This is common in parts of Abergavenny, Chepstow, and near Pontypool Park. We can help you check this with the local council. If a tree is dead or poses an immediate danger, we can often carry out the work, but it is always best to verify first.

Why should I choose DuraPost steel fence posts over traditional timber or concrete?

Timber posts eventually rot at the ground level where they sit in wet soil. Concrete posts are heavy, can crack, and are difficult to install on steep valley gardens. DuraPost is made from cold-rolled galvanised steel. It is lightweight, won't rot, and is designed to handle the 110mph winds we sometimes see on exposed hillsides. It gives you a much longer-lasting boundary.

Are you licensed to take away garden waste and household rubbish?

Yes. JDP Outdoor Solutions is an Upper Tier / Full Waste Carrier. We provide you with the peace of mind that every load of garden waste or household rubbish we collect is tracked and disposed of at a legal recycling centre. This protects you from the risks and fines associated with illegal fly-tipping.

Can you replace broken fence posts without replacing the whole fence?

If your fence panels are still in good condition but a post has snapped, we can usually replace just the post. We can also slot new panels into existing concrete posts if the old ones have blown out. We always look for the most cost-effective way to secure your boundary.

How deep do you grind tree stumps below ground level?

We usually grind stumps down to well below the turf line. This allows you to cover the area with topsoil and grass, or even lay a new patio or path over the top without the old root system getting in the way.

When is the best time of year to cut back large hedges?

While we can do light trimming most of the year, we avoid heavy reductions between March and August. This is the main bird nesting season, and it is illegal to disturb nesting birds. We recommend scheduling major hedge work for the autumn or winter months.

Can old crumbling patio joints be repaired without relaying the whole patio?

Absolutely. If your paving slabs are still solid but the gaps are full of weeds and moss, we can help. We clean the joints out thoroughly and refill them with high-quality jointing sand or resin-based mortars. This refreshes the look of your garden and stops water from getting under the slabs and causing them to wobble.

Tailored Boundary & Tree Care for Bargoed / Bargod Properties

Working throughout Bargoed / Bargod and the upper Rhymney Valley means contending with distinct local landscapes. The combination of steep hillsides, terraced street plans, and open exposure to driving valley winds creates specific demands on domestic fences, retaining lines, and mature trees.

Standard timber posts installed into heavy clay or water-logged valley ground frequently snap under autumn gales. For homeowners across Bargoed / Bargod, we regularly install Birkdale DuraPost steel systems paired with heavy-duty vertical featheredge timber. The cold-rolled galvanised steel posts resist rot, flex against severe valley winds, and offer long-term stability on stepped, tiered boundaries without cracking like brittle concrete.

Narrow & Rear-Lane Access

Equipped with compact mechanical stump grinders and modular gear to navigate steep steps and narrow terrace lanes.

Wind-Funnel Resilience

Frequently Asked Questions for Bargoed / Bargod Enquiries

Do you charge extra for travelling to Bargoed / Bargod?

No. Bargoed / Bargod falls comfortably within our standard 15-mile operating radius from our main yard in Pontypool (NP4 6PR). Free initial site visits and fixed-price written quotations apply without any hidden travel surcharges.

How do you handle difficult access on steep valley terraces?

Many valley homes lack direct rear vehicular access. We use lightweight, high-rigidity DuraPost steel systems that can be safely walked down narrow steps, and compact narrow-access stump grinders that fit through standard 750mm garden gates. We plan the access route carefully during the initial survey.

Do I need planning permission or council consent to cut down my tree?

If your property sits within a designated Conservation Area or the tree carries a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) managed by Caerphilly County Borough Council, an application is required before works commence (unless the tree poses an immediate, demonstrable hazard). We can advise on the status of your tree during our site visit.

What happens to the green waste and old fence panels?

JDP Outdoor Solutions holds an official Upper Tier Waste Carrier Licence issued through Natural Resources Wales. We clear all debris from your garden and transfer it directly to authorised South Wales waste stations, providing you with full legal compliance.
