Do I need council permission to fell a tree in Torfaen or Monmouthshire?

You generally need permission if the tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or if your property is in a Conservation Area. This is common in parts of Abergavenny, Chepstow, and near Pontypool Park. We can help you check this with the local council. If a tree is dead or poses an immediate danger, we can often carry out the work, but it is always best to verify first.

Why should I choose DuraPost steel fence posts over traditional timber or concrete?

Timber posts eventually rot at the ground level where they sit in wet soil. Concrete posts are heavy, can crack, and are difficult to install on steep valley gardens. DuraPost is made from cold-rolled galvanised steel. It is lightweight, won't rot, and is designed to handle the 110mph winds we sometimes see on exposed hillsides. It gives you a much longer-lasting boundary.

Are you licensed to take away garden waste and household rubbish?

Yes. JDP Outdoor Solutions is an Upper Tier / Full Waste Carrier. We provide you with the peace of mind that every load of garden waste or household rubbish we collect is tracked and disposed of at a legal recycling centre. This protects you from the risks and fines associated with illegal fly-tipping.

Can you replace broken fence posts without replacing the whole fence?

If your fence panels are still in good condition but a post has snapped, we can usually replace just the post. We can also slot new panels into existing concrete posts if the old ones have blown out. We always look for the most cost-effective way to secure your boundary.

How deep do you grind tree stumps below ground level?

We usually grind stumps down to well below the turf line. This allows you to cover the area with topsoil and grass, or even lay a new patio or path over the top without the old root system getting in the way.

When is the best time of year to cut back large hedges?

While we can do light trimming most of the year, we avoid heavy reductions between March and August. This is the main bird nesting season, and it is illegal to disturb nesting birds. We recommend scheduling major hedge work for the autumn or winter months.

Can old crumbling patio joints be repaired without relaying the whole patio?

Absolutely. If your paving slabs are still solid but the gaps are full of weeds and moss, we can help. We clean the joints out thoroughly and refill them with high-quality jointing sand or resin-based mortars. This refreshes the look of your garden and stops water from getting under the slabs and causing them to wobble.

Blaenau Gwent Catchment

Outdoor Work Built for the Exposed Heads of the Valleys

Situated at high elevation along the valley slopes, Glyn Ebwy / Ebbw Vale experiences some of the harshest wind loads, steepest garden terraces, and dampest ground conditions in South Wales. Standard off-the-shelf timber panels and shallow post holes simply do not hold up when winter gales whip over the surrounding moorlands and down the valley basin.

At JDP Outdoor Solutions, we treat every boundary and tree project with respect for these conditions. Whether your property sits in a traditional terraced street with difficult narrow-lane rear access, an elevated hillside plot with stepped levels, or a newer estate on the former steelworks site, we arrive fully equipped to handle stubborn ground, awkward access, and severe weather exposure.

Steep Slopes & Narrow Lanes

Equipped for stepped boundary fences, tight gateways, and hillside carrying without damaging surrounding property.

Gale-Resistant Solutions

Deep concrete footings, pressure-treated featheredge, and cold-rolled steel DuraPost systems rated up to 110mph winds.

Local Trade & Planning Considerations in Glyn Ebwy / Ebbw Vale

A few common questions regarding tree works, planning boundaries, and fencing resilience across Blaenau Gwent:

Do I need council consent before cutting down a tree in Glyn Ebwy / Ebbw Vale?

Most domestic garden trees can be pruned or felled without formal approval unless protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or located within a designated Conservation Area administered by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. If your tree poses an immediate safety hazard, dead or dangerous trees can often be made safe under emergency provisions. We can assist you in verifying whether your tree is subject to protections.

Why do standard wooden fence posts fail so quickly here?

The valley slopes around Glyn Ebwy / Ebbw Vale receive high annual rainfall and sit in heavy, moisture-retentive soils. Standard timber posts rot at ground level within 4 to 7 years. When gale-force valley gusts hit the fence line, rotten posts snap easily. This is why we recommend Birkdale DuraPost steel posts, which will not rot, split, or fail in saturated soil and carry an engineered wind rating up to 110mph.

Can you handle jobs with narrow rear terraced lane access?

Yes. Many properties in Glyn Ebwy / Ebbw Vale have rear pedestrian lanes, tight stone boundary steps, or narrow side alleys. We choose our equipment accordingly—utilising narrow-access stump grinders, sectional dismantling rigging techniques, and controlled hand carrying to ensure materials and arisings move cleanly without damaging boundary walls or adjacent properties.

Where does the garden clearance and tree waste go?

JDP Outdoor Solutions holds an official Upper Tier Waste Carrier Licence registered with Natural Resources Wales (NRW). All green waste, timber logs, branches, and garden rubble are transported directly to licensed commercial waste and transfer stations for legal processing, recycling, and composting. You will never face the risk of fly-tipping liability.
